You could not make a better bloke than Jonesy. Always up for a banter and nothing to much trouble for him. A good family man and grandfather. Our family have known Eric ever since he arrived at Chatham and he was the kind of bloke who would go out of his way to speak to you even to dismounting his bicycle and crossing the road to acknowledge you. We are going to miss his Barnsley banter and his Witt. He started to play walk football with me Hoppo and Sam and he livened up the sessions. Especially with sammy. Sam would call “give it here Jonesy” and He would even though Eric was on the opposing side. Jonesy would respond I’ll get you back Samwell. Going to miss him they don’t make them like anymore. Polite respectful and a true gentleman. Rest in peace mate and you will always be remembered in our family. The Adams family

Uncle Eric we will all miss you so much, the times all the family came back to Barnsley was always something we all looked forward to. I'd meet up with uncle Eric to play some "quality" golf!!! The times I would be playing cricket in Kent he would go out of his way to come and support me which always made me feel good and I hope I made him proud! The cricket tours we went on with his club and friends were brilliant memories. The time he introduced us to white Hart lane in 1984 against Sunderland, people ask why spurs it's because of Uncle Eric!!! A real legend !!!! Rest in peace Uncle Eric "R" Chris

I made Eric's acquaintance soon after joining Deangate GC in 2013 when I took part in the biweekly seniors' swindle roll ups. He clearly loved all the sport in his life- current and past- and brought a trademark cheerfulness and positive energy to any group he played with. His ingrained batsman technique meant that acquiring an elegant golf swing was always a challenge, but this did not prevent him from winning from time to time. We often exchanged news of our respective lower league football clubs- his Barnsley and my Plymouth. When Deangate closed many of us transferred to Gillingham which is where he and I had our last friendly chat the day before his untimely sudden passing. Uncle Eric loved going to watch his home town Barnsley FC. I always remember when they were promoted you threw your tea up in the air on the final whistle. Let’s hope fingers crossed they manage to stay up. Has I know you would have been watching and listening to the matches since it’s kicked back off with the lockdown. It was your life enjoying watching your favourite football team. I used to sit in with Mum and Auntie Jean while you went to match with Dad. RIP uncle Eric you will always be in our hearts. ⚽️💔 x

Uncle Eric I will never forget the happy memories of all the holidays we had with Auntie Jean, Louise, Nan, mum n dad, and our Sam. We will miss you so much, always liked a laugh and had a smile on your face. Life is so unfair that you were taken far too soon. I will miss our chats on the phone. My memories of Uncle Eric. Firstly the ‘Disco King’. I will never forget his signature dance move .... jogging on the spot, sweat pouring down his face!! Shouting “Come on Our Pat, Mam, Our Jane, Our Sylv etc .. “. Secondly, recognising how proud he was of his nephew’s (Chris) Cricket Career. Thirdly, Happy memories of joining Uncle Eric’s cricket team on tour. There was never a dull moment and when there was an opportunity to make some money Uncle Eric always made an appearance! A memory of Eric was at a new Years eve party at the Kent Water board club where everyone had brought their own food in picnic baskets with nicely laid out tables but we had only brought crisps and pork pies in a plastic bag and then Eric went round tables asking if anyone had any brown sauce. Memories of Ramsgate A day out at Ramsgate we all decided that we were going to have fish and chips on the beach. Auntie Jean buttered a full loaf of bread to add to the fish and chips. But unfortunately it started to rain so we had to eat inside the fish and chip restaurant. We ordered our fish and chips and the waiter brought them to the table. Dennis whispered Eric Ive got this bread on my knee do you want some? Eric said quietly no Dennis I don’t the man from the counter is watching us we will get kicked out! So Dennis didn’t listen and passed it to all that wanted there bread and butter. The man started to scratch his head behind the counter thinking are they not enjoying there fish and chips! Due to everyone snacking on there bread first! Eric then wanted to join in mouth watering and have his bread too! “ please Sir can I have some more”! ....

Stories of Caster Yarmouth 39 years ago memories from Sylvia and Dennis. All cramped up in Eric’s old Anglia 5 Adults and 1 child, plus 5 suitcase’s squashed in the boot and on the roof rack and the back window.... Just managing to see out of the the wing mirror holding on with a wired coat anger that was twisted! Eric driving, Dennis has passenger and on the back seat Granny Faulkner, Nan Jones, Sylvia and Samantha with her monkey teddy called Freddy! Eric was determined to get everyone in that car we went from Yarmouth bus station to Caster holiday park! Auntie Jean was back at the caravan waiting for us. If we could have made Record breakers with Roy castle we would have stole the show Boom!......

Merry from Mablethorpe cricket tour Chris brought a training ball on elastic which when pulled back was very difficult to hit so Eric charged team mates a pound to see if they could hit the ball! Sister Pat and John

A much loved brother to my mum Sylvia and a great close brother in law to my dad. My uncle Eric you were loved so much by all who met you and you always went above and beyond to make everyone happy! We has your Yorkshire family loved to come to Kent and enjoy our holidays, every day was exciting we used to get up and Eric would say right where are we going today? Margate? Broadstairs? Whitstable? herne bay? Hastings? London? Or Rochester? We would laugh from start of the day until the end we were always late for the train on the way home running for it! With Nan been at the back! And Eric at the front shouting “come on Yorkshire lot Hurry up! Then at night we would go to the dogs, Eric loved the dogs too! Flying kites in the park up Chatham and kids trying to pinch them when they landed! It was like being in the story of Mary popins jumping in pictures and coming out at the other side with great stories to tell everyone! Eating fish and chips and my mum kneeling in Donkey mess! Having competitions of best sand sculptures! And playing rounders, cricket, beach ball. Going to Wembley and Cardiff to watch his beloved Barnsley and hiding flags from the Millwall fans on the train so they wouldn’t cause disputes to the fans! Great memories to treasure but sadness to say good bye We love you uncle Eric from all of your Yorkshire family xxxxxx
